Barcelona scout director Paul Araujo announced his departure: Thanks to Deco and management, come on Barcelona
World Sports reported that Barcelona scout director Paul Araujo announced his resignation.
Portuguese Paul Araujo is the director of Barcelona's scouting department and announced his departure from the club through LinkedIn on the last day of the 2024-25 season. Araujo joined Barcelona in April 2022, after he served as an advisor to the Burnley Club in England (2019-2022), and held market-related positions in the Adidas Portugal Division (2000-2002) and Umbro (2002-2019).
In the farewell letter, Araujo thanked the club president Laporta for giving him the opportunity to lead the scouting department, especially when the club faces pressure on financial equity policy and the pressure to continue to win games. He also particularly thanked his friend Deco for his courage to invite someone who has extensive experience in sports organizations but is relatively unknown to the club, and believes that Deco will lead the club to more important victories with his high level of experience and keen strategic vision.
Araujo also mentioned his experience in working with Mattou Alemani, Jodi Cruyff, Deko and Boyan Kerkic during his time at the club, and said he learned a lot from these football professionals. Finally, Araujo said he was proud to leave a structured, well-processed scouting department in Barcelona with great talent and tools that will help decision makers continue to pursue excellence.
Arauho Farewell Letter:
It's time to say goodbye and express gratitude. Say goodbye to this great club where life goes with amazing speed and intensity, victory and failure are accompanied by pride and passion throughout the world. Say goodbye to this beautiful and unique city of Barcelona and the charming Catalonia region. Thanks to this extraordinary club for giving me the opportunity to work here, although it was only over three years and it felt like three days. Thanks to President Laporta for giving me the opportunity to lead the scouting department during my term. The club was in a difficult period at that time, and had to bear the continuous pressure to win, but also faced the challenges brought by fiscal fairness policies.
However, even in these dilemmas, under the strong leadership of the President, we won 2 La Liga titles, 2 Super Cups of Spain, 1 Copa del Rey in my three full seasons and reached the Champions League semi-finals. At the same time, I would like to express my special thanks to my long-time friend Deko, who has the courage to invite someone who is relatively unknown in the football club world despite having extensive experience in sports organizations. I worked under the guidance of Mattou Alemani and Cruyff and have worked with Deko and Boyan Kerkic in the last two years, and have learned a lot about the football industry from these experienced football professionals.
I believe that with Deco's highest level of experience in football and his keen strategic vision for football management, he will lead the team to more important victories with the support of everyone in the club. I hope the club and my former bosses are happy with my performance and the efforts of my team. We at least try to achieve the ambitions of this great club through teamwork, hard work, humility and respect.
But now is the time to move on and find new challenges and new horizons, and despite some regrets, I know I have done my best. I believe that the department has now established structures and processes, with excellent talent and professionals, and the tools needed to support decision makers in pursuing high performance. We are just passers-by in the organization. People come and go, but the club will continue to be a representative of ambitions and examples of behavior in sports. Thank you to everyone who worked and dated me during my tenure. Come on, Barcelona!
