Inzaghi: At least we should be in overtime in the final two years ago. Now we are a little more experienced
In an interview with UEFA official website, Inter Milan coach Inzaghi Jr. talked about the Champions League final. He said the final against Manchester City two years ago should at least drag the game into overtime.
How proud are you to lead the team to the Champions League final for the second time in three years?
- We are very satisfied that we have achieved excellent results over the past few years and reaching the Champions League finals twice is a reward for our hard work and sacrifice. This is the result of a joint effort between our players, the entire club and our amazing fans.
What have you learned from losing to Manchester City in the 2023 Istanbul final?
-That final seemed to be yesterday, when we played against the powerful Manchester City. Overall, we should at least drag the game into overtime. That experience is very important – we performed well at high level and let us know our abilities. What has the
team changed since then?
- Obviously, the team is different from when I first came four years ago. We have all improved, thanks to the efforts of the players in every training session. We are a slightly more sophisticated team right now, which helps a lot in key moments and in important games, as we have seen recently.
How to summarize Inter Milan's journey to the finals?
—This is a long process, we have come here step by step. What you remember most is the last two games against Barcelona, but it would be extremely difficult if we go back to the quarterfinals against Bayern Munich. They are a great team – well-organized and strong. For us, the quarterfinals are like the finals. All four games were very intense.
How to keep players calm in key games?
-I have a good group of players who always give their all. They always try to stay calm, which is crucial because football games depend on the choices you make at certain moments. I'm lucky to have such a group of players who can stay calm and focus on the moment.
What have you learned from players in the past four years?
- What I learned is that hard work will always pay off because their commitment to work is a primary requirement for a team. My team and I always try to motivate them in the best way we can, and they put in a tremendous effort in every training.
How do you view Paris Saint-Germain?
- They are a very strong and comprehensive team with an excellent coach, Louis Enrique. They have a lot of talented players, so we have to play the perfect game and try to stay competitive. We have a lot of respect for them, but we will do our best to play the finals: with respect, but without fear.
What does winning this trophy mean for Inter Milan?
- This will be the pinnacle of a great work that started four years ago, and we know it will be a very important final, and we are eager to make our fans feel genuinely happy and we will give it all.
