Perkins: I ve been in a depressed period for about a year and a half after retirement. Damn the phone stopped ringing
Recently, Perkins revealed on the Road Trippin podcast that he had struggled with depression for more than a year after retirement.
Perkins said: "I know how hard it is when you can't retire as you want. When you retire just because that damn phone stops ringing, that's the hardest thing in the world. I went through a depressed period of about a year and a half, but when you finally left the game and announced your retirement, it's really hard."
"My phone didn't ring and the agent asked me, 'What are you going to do?' I said 'I want to try being an assistant coach', I went to the draft joint trial, got a few invitations, and suddenly I got to where I am, but it was not easy, mainly psychological adjustments, after all, it's the only thing you are familiar with in your life," Perkins said.
