In an interview with The Athletic reporter Dan Woike, Doncic talked about the responsibilities and significance of the leader. He said that at this stage of his career, in order to make the team as strong as possible, he needs to speak out.

He said: "It may just be something I need to do, especially because I've seen a lot of basketball games now. So I've been through a lot, so I feel like I need to do that to help others."

Doncic also said that even if it means pointing out defensive loopholes loudly during a pause or encouraging teammates to stand up from the bench to cheer for their teammates' wonderful performances, he will do it. He said: "As a leader, sometimes it's comfortable, sometimes it's uncomfortable. Sometimes it's great to be a leader, but sometimes you have to say the things you don't want to say, but that's part of being a leader."
